two days ago, ben and i celebrated ten years together as a couple. kenbodesigns even altered the krampus graphic being worked on, to congratulate us!

that evening we went up to northern liberties to have dinner at a full plate — and saw liberty lands park.

and fell in love. instantly.

and knew — that while passyunk avenue would indeed be a cool place to have the lauf — liberty lands was where it NEEDED to be. we needed the staging space. we needed the bare, sinister trees as they would be in december (although in september they were still covered in leaves and berries).

and when i saw photos of what the park looked like in use in december…

i contacted park organizer janet finegar immediately, ready to beg her for at least the use of the stage.

turns out janet — a puppeteer with a degree in folklore — was about as excited as i was to think about having our entire krampus event at liberty lands.

yesterday, we went and took some photos of the park to share.

there's a STAGE here!!!

today, we met with janet and other community members.

it was a match made in… somewhere. at least as fortuitous as when our randomly-generated QR code for this blog came out having a clear image of krampus in it:

(some also claim to see santa approaching krampus there, sneaking up behind him.)

and so we now officially announce:

KRAMPUSLAUF PHILADELPHIA will take place on december 10 at dusk (as previously planned) with a new venue of LIBERTY LANDS PARK, 913-961 north 3rd st., philadelphia.

updates will continue here!

liberty lands has been named one of america’s “great public spaces” by projects for public spaces, a nonprofit group that works with communities to build sustainable public spaces all over the US and the world.

our first OFFICIAL event will be a krampus consciousness-raising table at liberty lands’ fall festival on october 30. stay tuned for mask-making workshop updates, puppet/horn/t-shirt workshops for kids, and more!

and, from kenbodesigns, our first official graphic:
