as i began to think about a krampus procession, two past events kept coming to my mind.
the first was the rosenbach museum’s dracula parade. we love this event but have noticed that in recent years it has become more of a block party event and not a parade. it was always a small parade; small route, small party — but that was part of what we liked about it. i believe that spiral q puppet theater were responsible for the large dracula float used every year, and for the wolf and bat costume modules that volunteers could wear to participate in the parade. more on that later.
the second past event was wherever there is water, which was the work created at the fleisher art memorial by artist george ferrandi during her 2010 residency. our family was very involved with this project and my memories of how fun that was — all the making, and then the gratification of the final procession and the surprise on the faces of those who saw it — has always stuck with me.
